The average size of a litter of red foxes is five. When a rare ninth fox is born, so small her survival is doubted, it soon becomes clear she is different from other foxes in many ways. Unnamed and unaccepted, she hears whispers of bad luck and curses. When her family’s life gets harder, the Ninth Fox is told she’s to blame.
To break the curse of her birth before it ruins her life and the lives of her family, she embarks on a quest. She must travel to a faraway land and save a fairy princess from a terrible monster.
On a small, forested island far from Montreal where there are no other foxes, the Ninth Fox meets a friendly Golden Retriever, and a fairy named Frank—not a princess. She can’t find what she needs for her quest, and there is danger at every turn. It might take more than the determination and courage of one tiny fox to complete such an impossible quest.
